The Universal Seal HP 2590 Black Solvent Ink Cartridge is a genuine HP TIJ 2.5 cartridge designed for industrial coding and marking applications. Featuring 47ml black solvent ink, fast 3–5 second drying on films, excellent durability on BOPP and reliable intermittent printing, it is suitable for high-quality text, barcode and product coding on compatible packaging substrates.
The HP 2590 Black Solvent Smart Card Print Cartridge, supplied by Universal Seal™, combines HP's proven TIJ 2.5 / HP 45si cartridge technology with HP 2590 solvent ink for industrial coding and marking applications. It is designed to provide consistent, high-quality black printing for packaging and production environments.
The HP 2590 contains an official 47ml ink fill of black solvent-based dye ink. HP specifies an average drop volume of 29 picolitres and maximum firing frequency of 18 kHz.
HP specifically developed the 2590 for demanding film and packaging applications. The ink provides a typical 3–5 second dry time on films, helping reduce smearing during production and handling.
A major feature of HP 2590 is its performance on film substrates. HP reports excellent durability on untreated BOPP, along with strong performance on treated BOPP and compatible materials including PE, PET, UV-coated substrates, aluminium foil and PVC.
The cartridge uses 300 nozzles and supports resolution up to 600 DPI, with 300 × 300 DPI recommended by HP. This allows compatible TIJ systems to produce sharp text and machine-readable codes for industrial coding applications.
HP specifies a decap time of up to 24 hours, making HP 2590 particularly useful for intermittent production environments. This means the cartridge is designed to recover quickly when printing resumes after periods of inactivity.
When installed in a compatible TIJ printer/controller, HP 2590 can be used for applications such as MFG Date, EXP Date, Batch No., Lot No., MRP, serial numbers and text, as well as barcodes, QR codes and logos where those functions are supported by the printer.
HP states that the design and manufacture of HP 2590 solvent ink complies with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) for printing inks for food-contact materials, according to the EuPIA framework referenced in HP's documentation. This should not be interpreted as meaning the ink itself is intended for direct printing onto food.
